Sometimes people are looking to sell models, usually a collection, all at one time. This can happen for several reasons. A death in the family (by a person who collected models), or maybe a model builder has switched hobbys and has a new interest in their life. With the average age of a moder usually beyond 40+, it's no surprise some folks may want to thin out the herd from hundreds, maybe thousands of model kits they've accumulated over a lifetime.

I don't buy collections myself (mainly because I don't have the funds), but there are people who do, for themselves, or as a business to resell the items to other hobby builders, who will give the model kits a new home, and a place on a model bench.

Of course, you can sell models yourself on eBay, Amazon, or Craigslist, but if you want to try and sell an entire collection, it might be easier to do all at one time.

Here are some places that do buy collections below. At least, ones I know of.

I recommend you have an accurate list of the kits, with kit numbers (which are usually on the boxes). A photo or two might help also to show the condition of the models and boxes.

You may also want to get quotes from more than one place to get the best deal.

I mention the individual states they are located in because if you're shipping models, usually the closest place to your location will be cheapest as far as shipping costs. It's also possible they will be within driving distance to you.

• Old Model Kits - Kentucky - They buy models of almost any kind. The older the better. Airplanes, ships, cars, different brands, they carry a lot of rare and interesting kits
• Rare Plane Detectives - California - They buy model collections specifically aircraft.
• Spotlight Hobbies - Michigan - Purchases model collections and sometimes diecast.
